NFL: Cam Newton Poses & Featured In Interview Magazine

The 22-year-old Carolina Panthers quarterback and overall number 1 pick in the NFL draft is realizing just how much his life has changed. Check out Cam Newton’s online Q&A with Interview Magazine’s Jonathan Durbin as the Carolina Panthers’ first year sensation spits the knowledge of how he handles being under the constant glare of super stardom, discusses being a young leader among grown men and gives his biased outlook on music and fashion.

DURBIN: You’re only 22 years old and you’re suddenly in a very intense leadership position. Is that intimidating?

NEWTON: Ummm . . . Not really. That’s just something that comes natural in a person. The hard part is that you’re always in the spotlight. Oftentimes I see myself on TV, and it’s like, “Man, what have I become?” I used to hope I was gonna be on TV, hoping people would see me playing football. Now, I’m being critiqued at the highest level—you know, “Cam didn’t do that right. He didn’t do this right.” Which is fine, but there’s no off switch. If I go downstairs right now and cuss out somebody, it’s going to be on ESPN tomorrow, you can believe that. That’s the difference.

Sale approved, Will Smith & Jada Pinkett Smith among Sixers new owners

Tuesday is a big day for NBA basketball fans in the city of Philadelphia. CSN has learned that a press conference called for Tuesday morning at the Palestra by the Sixers will introduce their new ownership led by multibillionaire Joshua Harris, who went to the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. (CSN and CSNPhilly.com will air the press conference live at 11:30 a.m.)

Last week, the NBA Board of Governors voted unanimously to approve the sale from Comcast-Spectacor to Harris’ group. Harris is one of three co-founders of Apollo Global Management, a private equity group.

"My partners and I are thrilled to have become owners of the Sixers," Harris said in a statement released by the team Tuesday morning. "It is an honor to become part of this storied franchise. We have a lot of work to do, but we have a rich history, a strong foundation and a bright future."

The group includes numerous investors, including Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. "West Philadelphia born and raised," Will was born in Wynnefield and attended Overbrook High School.

Another Philly native, Adam Aron, a graduate of Abington High School, Harvard College and Harvard Business School, has been named the franchise's CEO. Aron served as the chairman and chief executive officer of Vail Resorts until 2006 before forming and holding the same title for the consultancy, World Leisure Partners, Inc.

"Being named CEO of the Philadelphia 76ers is truly a dream come true," said Aron, who also will serve as an Alternate Governor of the NBA. "Having grown up in Abington, I have always been a fan of this team."

The new ownership will be limited in what it can say about its new investment given that the NBA does not allow anyone who works for a team or owns a franchise to discuss any players or the current state of the lockout.

While the Sixers are introducing the new regime, federal mediator George Cohen will be overseeing talks between the full bargaining committees for both the owners and players in an effort to end a lockout that began on July 1.

NBA Commissioner David Stern has indicated that if the two sides don’t have major movement from Tuesday’s session then his gut tells him they will not be playing NBA basketball on Christmas Day, the first big national television day of the season. That day is supposed to feature a rematch of the 2011 NBA Finals between Dallas and Miami.

Cohen met with each side individually on Monday at their respective New York offices and he has been in contact with the two sides for several months.

The entire exhibition slate and first two weeks of the regular season have already been canceled. The Sixers were scheduled to play seven games in the regular season’s first two weeks.

Did Shakespeare smoke Marijuana?

Scientists say William Shakespeare may have been a 'Bard boy' who took drugs to dream up his dramas.

Their claim comes after smoking pipes found buried in his back garden revealed traces of cannabis.

The scientists have submitted a formal application to the Church of England for exhumation of William Shakespeare's remains so that they can find out about his life and death, and if he smoked weed.

The team led by Francis Thackeray, an anthropologist and director of the Institute for Human Evolution at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa hopes to dig up the bard's grave in Stratford-upon-Avon.

"We have incredible techniques. We don't intend to move the remains at all," Thackeray was quoted as saying about the "non-destructive analysis" the team has planned.

The team also looks to address a controversial suggestion Thackeray made a decade ago, when he
examined a collection of two dozen pipes found in the playwright's garden and determined that Shakespeare was an avid marijuana smoker.

LeBron James Asks About NFL Free Agency Deadline After NBA Lockout Leads to Canceled Games

LeBron James was a busy man on on Monday night as NBA commissioner David Stern announced the league was forced to cancel its first two weeks of games.

James spent the evening retweeting tweets from fellow NBA superstars Steve Nash and Kevin Durant as well as adding his own thoughts in expressing remorse for the fans that the league’s lockouts caused games to be canceled.

On Tuesday, though, James seemed ready to move on, and move on from the NBA. Kind of.

James tweeted at ESPN’s NFL insider John Clayton on Tuesday afternoon asking a pretty telling question about the other league that has had a labor dispute this year.

“When is the deadline for a team to sign a free agent?” James asked.

Clayton responded by saying that free agency “goes until the last team is eliminated. Game on.”

The ESPN personality was also kind enough to take on the role of adviser for James and offering him some suggestions about where to take his talents.

“LeBron, because you have some time and you were a WR, the 49ers just signed Brett Swain. You might check with Buffalo,” Clayton tweeted.

He also had some helpful advice, too.

“LeBron, don’t look at the Philadelphia Eagles. You’re already on a Dream Team.”

It’s not the first time that James has toyed with the idea of playing football.

In 2009, King James reminded the world how great of an athlete he was when he boldy proclaimed that he could play in the NFL.

“If I put all my time and commitment into it, if I dedicated myself to the game of football, I could be really good, no matter what team I was on,” James said at the time.

Apparently, he might have some takers, as then Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini admitted he thought James could potentially make it in the NFL.

“I think he should come on down,” Mangini said. “I know he’s pretty busy right now, but if he wants to give it a shot, the guy is gifted. He’s competitive and tough. I’m sure whatever he applied himself to, he’d probably be good in baseball or soccer or swimming.”

It’s all very, very unlikely, of course. However, it is worth noting what James did last week.

Last Tuesday, the Heat forward practiced with his high school’s football team. James was in full pads as he caught some passes while making a trip back home to Ohio, according to a Cleveland TV station.

The 6-foot-8, 250-pound James was an all-state wide receiver in high school at St. Vincent-St. Mary in Akron.

Tupac’s Unreleased Track Gets A Million Dollar Offer

Tupac’s music is still making money!

A huge  offer has  rolled in for the Tupac sex tape — but not for the explicit video … rather for the SONG in the background.

Sources say the CEO of NOHO (that anti-hangover drink) wants to acquire all rights to the unreleased Tupac track playing in the background of the tape  and he’s willing to pay $1,000,000 for full rights.

It’s unclear who actually owns the rights to the song ; but sources tell us, the CEO has made the open offer to buy them outright  and he plans to use the secret track as the official theme song for the beverage company.

It’s crazy because the bidding war for the full sex tape had only reached 150,000 and the bid for the song itself has completely overshadowed that amount.

700 busted as Wall St. protesters clog Brooklyn Bridge

About 700 protesters were arrested after a horde of anti-Wall Street demonstrators swarmed the Brooklyn Bridge yesterday, halting traffic for more than three hours and clashing with cops on the famed span.

Up to 100 cars were left stranded as the loud, angry crowd covered the crossing from end to end in an inflamed day of demonstrations against high unemployment, bank bailouts and financial pain for the masses.

One irate driver, a Ground Zero construction worker, was livid.

“I work my ass off all day, and these goddamned hippies close down the Brooklyn Bridge so I can’t get home?” he said. “This ain’t right!”

The rowdy protesters, who have repeatedly tussled with police in the two weeks they’ve spent downtown, made their way through the rain from Zuccotti Park to City Hall, where cops locked the park gates and diverted them elsewhere.

The crowd bottlenecked at the entrance and then occupied the bridge, tying up traffic as they slowly oozed across the span in a bid to get to Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Some protesters griped that cops appeared to trick them into being arrested by not explicitly telling them not to march onto the bridge.

“It seemed that police allowed them to go into the area and then arrested them, so it came off pretty strange,” complained Jesse LaGreca.

Police spokesman Paul Browne said protesters were told “to stay on the pedestrian walkway and that if they took the roadway they would be arrested.

“Some complied and took the walkway without being arrested. Others proceeded on the Brooklyn-bound vehicular roadway. The latter were arrested.”

“People started sitting down and refusing to move,” said protester Ian Bradley, who climbed up to the pedestrian walkway to avoid being arrested.

“People were being thrown to the ground by the cops,” he said.

Eventually, police -- including Chief of Department Joseph Esposito, the NYPD’s highest-ranking uniformed officer -- hauled away hundreds of protesters, who were allegedly a menace to drivers.

One officer told a protester the group was hurting the people they were supposedly rallying for by shutting down the bridge.

“Who do you think you’re inconveniencing?” the cop asked.

“The 99 percent! The 1 percent are watching this from their penthouses.”

It was the largest mass arrest since the 2004 Republican National Convention, when 1,200 protesters were taken into custody.

One of the arrested yesterday, Natasha Lennard, is a freelance reporter for The New York Times, the paper said.

She later Tweeted that she was released after spending hours on a police bus.

Most of the arrested were issued summonses and desk appearance tickets.

Cops were not able to immediately specify the charges, but said protesters were being processed at precincts in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Some bold-faced names have shown up at the Occupy Wall Street protests in recent days, including Susan Sarandon, Michael Moore and Russell Simmons, but at least one got a cold reception earlier yesterday.

Embattled Rep. Charlie Rangel tried to lend his support but was chased away by a heckler.

Rangel was giving an informal speech to the crowd when a man started taunting him and then came toward him, witnesses said.

“Charlie was saying how they need to have more people down here to support this. That’s why he was there,” said Councilman Charles Barron (D-Brooklyn), who was standing nearby as the incident unfolded.

“This heckler came out of the crowd and went after him.”

As Rangel, who was unhurt, backed away from the pushy protester, the crowd came to his rescue, swamping the heckler and chanting in response: “Everyone has the right to speak.”

A Rangel spokeswoman denied that the congressman was chased away.

“He knows people are frustrated and hurting badly from the financial meltdown,” spokeswoman Hannah Kim told The Post.

“He is glad that he went.”

Once the demonstrations began, the crowd bellowed together as they marched: “Show me what democracy looks like. This is what democracy looks like!” Organizers of the amorphous group issued an ominous “Declaration of the Occupation of New York City,” Thursday night.

“No true democracy is attainable when the process is determined by economic power,” the group declared.

“We come to you at a time when corporations, which place profit over people, self-interest over justice, and oppression over equality, run our governments.”
